A warm welcome to Clearwater Care’s newest home - Craigdale Road in Romford.
As the newest home in Clearwater Care’s portfolio, Craigdale Road provides a Transitional Supported Living Service for up to five adults/young people with learning disabilities or people with autistic conditions. All bedrooms have en-suites and the home enjoys several comfortable communal areas.

  Service user profile:

  • Adults aged 17 and over
  • May be looking to leave their family home for the first time
  • May be transferring from a residential education establishment
  • May have been living in residential care and want to develop their skills of daily living and independence.

As a transitional service a service user will typically live at Craigdale Road for  up to two years. During this time, the individual will gain skills and confidence to be able to move on into more semi-independence/independent accommodation, whether that it is sharing a house, having their own flat in a block of flats where other vulnerable people live or living in the wider community.

Individuals have a license to live at Craigdale Road rather than a tenancy agreement.

The scheme has a core team of staff who are on-site during the day and/or evening. In addition each person’s support plan will identify periods throughout the day/week where they require additional input on a 1-1 basis.

Flexibility with structure
Part of the living environment within Craigdale Road is based around having flexibility but with a form of structure, so that five people can live together without too many conflicts. As an example of this, it is likely the tenants will meet to agree their menu for the coming week; this in turn will create tasks such as identifying the ingredients required for each meal, creating shopping lists, sharing the responsibility for buying and preparing the meals.

Compromise is encouraged to be met at times so that everyone gets what they want when they want. House layout such as TV room/garden room/activity room is also discussed amongst the service users – they decide how each area is located, and the type of activities that should take place.

Measurable programmes
Each person has a weekly/monthly programme to follow which is focused on goals identified during the pre-assessment; objective goals are set which are measurable and have specific identifiable outcomes eg. the ability to learn how to make a cup of tea, make toast, room cleaning, joining a leisure club, right through to complex goals such as travel training, obtaining and maintaining voluntary or paid employment/attending college.

Reviews and discharge
Six monthly reviews are held and reports submitted to the placing authority;  the reviews report on the outcomes identified at placement/previous review. Vital to the success of Craigdale Road placements, the expectation is that at the point of admission, we are focusing and working towards the person’s discharge.
