"I am delighted to introduce you to Ash Lea House, Clearwater's home in Derbyshire."
Lorraine Hirst, Registered Home Manager.
Set in Alfreton, Ash Lea House provides care and support for people with learning disabilities. It is a vibrant and exciting community where we enjoy life to the full. We take full advantage of the local and regional facilities and have a busy programme of excursions during the year. Highlights include 'meeting the stars from Coronation Street', dog racing and visiting the zoo. This is all enhanced by each service user's care programme, where independent living skills are key to their road towards a more independent lifestyle.
We work closely with a number of agencies in the local area Some of the service users attend Parkwood Day Centre in Alfreton or Whitemoor Day centre in Belper during the week. We have a college in Ilkeston which has Groups/Education for people with learning disabilities. Some service users have a voluntary job in the local charity shops in the area. We have input from outside agencies eg Advocacy and ATS (Assessment and Treatment Service). Referrals can be made via the GP for speech and language, psychology or from other appropriate professionals.
Families and friends are always made to feel welcome. We have a party quarterly where everyone is invited giving us all the chance to meet together and talk. Families are invited to attend review meetings which take place every six months. We do ask family to participate in the annual quality assurance process for feedback on the home and how it is run. This is vital to ensure we are delivering the best quality of care. Comments slips are available in the hallway for all. We send everybody a quarterly newsletter to keep all interested parties abreast of life at Ash Lea House.
